The Fellowship of the Ring - #AtoZChallenge

“It's a great lesson about not being too precious about your writing. You have to try your hardest to be at the top of your game and improve every joke you can until the last possible second, and then you have to let it go. You can't be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide, overthinking it...You have to let people see what you wrote.”

The Fellowship of the Ring
Lord of the Rings #2
Fantasy
by J.R.R. Tolkien

Frodo Baggins knew the Ringwraiths were searching for him - and the Ring of Power he bore that would enable Sauron to destroy all that was good in Middle-earth. Now it was up to Frodo and his faithful servant Sam to carry the Ring to where it could be detroyed - in the very center of Sauron's dark kingdom.

Excerpt:

“All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”

  1. Those lines from Tolkien give me goosebumps the same way "Space, the final frontier..." does.

  2. I like the Tina Fey quote. It's ever so true, but can be hard to do.

    1. Even though she's not a 'writer', I couldn't help but include it. :)

  3. You listed Fellowship as "Lord of the Rings #2" - is there a reason? Do you count The Hobbit as part of that series?

    I remember that novel scaring the heck out of me as a kid. Gandalf dying was something my mind was not ready to consider possible.

    1. The Hobbit has always been #1 to me. I read it first YEARS ago & to this day I still can't imagine the LotR without that opening awesomeness. ;)

    1. Agreed. Just wish I didn't have to wait so stinkin' long for the 2nd!

  5. I'd love to read the books again, hopefully more quickly than the year it took me as a kid!

    1. It took forever, didn't it? I haven't re-read them in ages. Perhaps it is time.

  6. Excellent quote from Tina Fey!

    My favorite book in the series is still The Hobbit.

  7. I still haven't read the book(s), only read the Hobbit (which I love). Seen the movies (except the Hobbit) though, and loved them.

    1. That's something you'll have to rectify, then isn't it?? :) The Hobbit was good, but I love LotR more.
