If you’ve ever been caught in a riptide, pulled down into the water, then you know me. Or, more accurately, what I’m like when I’m angry.

Delia was beautiful, smart, and kind. He wasn’t. He said he loved her, but he didn’t know what love was. He was manipulative and cruel—more than a thief. A beast.

All she wanted was a rose…

These are the words on my sister’s grave. Her sadness, her obsession, forever a reminder I didn’t--couldn’t save her.

I’m not vindictive or cruel. I’m simply as the river--my memory is winding and my reach is long. I watched him steal her beauty, her essence. Watched him become a beast. He thought he'd get away with it, thought he'd go free.

I lay a rose upon my sister's grave.

Light a candle for the beast.

Raritan Manor Ranch, 3

A woman once shunned. A man now changed. There’s a thin line between love and hate.

When Wiccan practitioner Cassandra VanAlder encounters a man from her past who’d broken her heart, she casts some spells to help herself while wishing karma would deal out some payback. The spells turn against her, and before she knows it, she finds herself falling for him again.

Ryan Keene finds Cassandra enchanting and feels he’s met her somewhere before. She and her best friend, Debi, won’t give him any clues as to her identity. He loves challenges and doesn’t plan to back off from her until he finds the answers he seeks. He's told he has three dates to win her over.

Will she close off her heart or will she allow herself to feel again?

Excerpt

Her gaze darted from the paper to the people at the altar. Rings. Her heart sank in anguish. Sorrow sat heavy on her stomach. She fingered the black cat pin she wore on the lapel of her navy blue jacket. The handmade accessory was an artist’s rendition of her cat, Myrddin.
That night, long ago, when Ryan had dumped her, a kitten had wandered out of the tree line surrounding the mountain home of her childhood and into her life. The cat seemed to have known she needed consoling. It only took an instant for the two of them to become attached to each other. Myrddin grew to be a great companion and familiar. Cassandra had the pin created and cast a spell on it to always stay connected and comforted by her feline friend. Sometimes she wondered if Myrddin would have trotted out of the tree line had she and Ryan stayed together.
Ryan rubbed the back of his neck again and glanced into gathered throng of guests. His haunting gaze caught hers.
“Ryan…psst…Ryan,” the groom uttered.
Ryan shook his head and looked at the man in front of him. Subdued snickers tittered through the sanctuary.
“The rings, please?” The minister held out his hand.
“Oh, geez, sorry,” Ryan stammered, shoved his hand into his pocket, and fumbled to remove the rings. He held the bands out in the palm of his hand.
The minister blessed them and handed one to Lara and the other to the groom. Jeffrey placed the band on Lara’s finger, repeating the words per the minister’s prompts, “I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your finger, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day, and as a reminder of my undying love for you.”
Cassandra drew in a shuddering breath. Way back when, on an autumn evening, Ryan had almost said the same to her during a romantic moment. Remembering his words, tears clouded her eyes. You’re my love. My heart and soul I promise to you with this ring. He had then slipped a silver ring with a solid, milky white opal heart shape onto her right finger, the humps facing her nail, and placed a soft kiss on her lips. Her heart had been captured.
What a fool I was then.
Ryan glanced her way again.
She traced the edge of her pin and nibbled her lip. Was he trying to place her? Figure out who she was? A shiver ran through her body.
“Cass? Are you all right? You’ve gone pale,” Julie murmured near her ear.
Cassandra nodded, keeping her gaze glued to the wedding ceremony while toying with the cat pin. Calm yourself. You’re not that young girl anymore.
Lara took the other ring. She placed the band on Jeffrey’s finger and repeated the vows, “I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness. As I place it on your finger, I commit my heart and soul to you. I ask you to wear this ring as a reminder of the vows we have spoken today, our wedding day, and as a reminder of my undying love for you.”
“By the power vested in me by the State of Nevada,” the reverend stated, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss each other.”
Jeffrey and Lara sealed their vows. Ryan took one more look in her direction. One of his eyebrows rose in tandem with the corner of his lips.
Her gaze widened. No. He can’t remember. I can’t deal with him. I don’t want to deal with any man, not after what he did—and after the fiasco with Charlie. She touched her pin and chanted under her breath, begging the universe to make him forget any memories he had of her.

Excerpt:

“Miss Sinclair! There’s a man here to see you!” Ralston Tippet’s voice trilled out, and she unfolded her legs preparing to crawl out from under the beans. Probably a father in search of a wandering child. She seemed to attract any stray in the neighborhood, just like Ralston and his friend Emma Dooley who’d spotted her in the garden that morning and rushed to help make a mess of things.
Heedless of the dirt she was grinding into her knees, June pushed herself up and out into the hot July sunlight, blinking at the man-shaped silhouette in front of her. As her pupils contracted, she took in broken-down jeans, a soft brown T-shirt with a cartoon pig on it, broad shoulders, sunglasses, and a bright green ball cap. At least he wasn’t standing on any vegetable plants.
“Here he is, Miss Sinclair!” Ralston capered around while swinging a hoe with little regard for the safety of those in his vicinity. June reached out and grabbed the handle and wrestled it away from the kid. Yes, there he was, and what was she supposed to do with him?
“Can I help you?”
“I guess so, if you’re June Sinclair.” He tilted his head and altered the angle of his sunglasses as he looked her over. She saw a dark reflection of herself for a moment. She was dirty, sweaty, and unimpressive.
“I’ve been June Sinclair ever since I was a teeny-tiny baby.” Ralston giggled at her feeble joke, but the man just put his hands on his hips.
“You’re still little, Miss. Sinclair.” Ralston piped up, proud of his recent growth spurt, which nearly put him at her eye level.
“Ah, okay. My sister Becky just called you. I’m Nate.”
Oh. Oh no. June wanted to go back into the bean teepee and think about this for a while. When Becky Wray had called earlier and explained she’d needed a favor on behalf of her little brother, June had automatically defaulted to thinking of a kid needing help and had agreed without much thought. That was the trouble with working with kids all the time—she wasn’t used to meeting big adult men with stubble on their chins.
“Right. I was expecting someone else.”
“I’m the only brother she has.” He sounded peeved.
“She said you needed a video, but she didn’t explain much.”
“Ah, it’s a lot to go into over the phone.” He brushed one hand down his side as he glanced over the garden. It certainly looked a lot better than it had before she and the kids had gotten to work on it earlier. Now at least most of the weeds were uprooted and wilting in the sun.
As she waited for Nate to get to the point, she directed the kids to pick up the gardening debris and pile it into the wheelbarrow parked in the middle of the plot. Emma and Ralston were mutual sidekicks and had been since first grade. June wondered how their friendship would weather puberty. Reflecting that hormones messed up most things, she leaned over and gathered discarded tools, wiping soil from the edges off with her boot soles.
“Maybe this wasn’t a good idea,” Nate spoke up. “You’re busy.”
“I’m always busy. It doesn’t mean I can’t listen and work at the same time. We’re wrapping up here anyway.”
With a shrug of his big shoulders, Nate waded in and retrieved a shovel Emma had left among the popcorn seedlings. “I need help with a video. They have a list of things they want, and it’s complicated.”
Complicated. June relished complicated. “We need to stack the tools in the shed, right over there.” Handing him her collected trowels and Ralston’s hoe, she pointed the man in the direction of Mike the Custodian’s outdoor-equipment shed. Mike was on the grounds mowing today, and he’d lock up later. June tried not to notice Nate’s rear view as he walked away, but she couldn’t help noticing how the soft shirt clung to the muscles of his back. Hmm. He didn’t seem to be much younger than she was.
Ralston and Emma had almost tipped the wheelbarrow contents over by the time she got to them, but together they pushed the awkward cart to the compost heap the fifth-grade science classes had constructed. The front tire stuck into the soft ground at the edge of the open enclosure, and she and the kids struggled to lift up the handles and dump the load. Just as she bent her back to give it a shove, Nate’s hands were easing hers away and with an easy shrug, he tossed the weeds into the bin. So those shoulders weren’t just for show.
Emma and Ralston disagreed over who was going to push the wheelbarrow back to the shed until June told them to each take a handle and work together. With a glance at the man next to her, she wondered what to say. “Thanks for your help. With cleanup.”
“What is this? I don’t remember a garden here.”
June looked over the ragged square cut into the lawn beside the school building. The students always put it together with such enthusiasm in April and May, but once school was out, it tended to run wild over the summer. The yellow pear and black tomatoes seemed to be faring well with benign neglect, as were the onions and beans. The peas on the trellis were sad, but peas always were once the temperature rose. “It’s a community garden.”
“Who eats all the produce? There’s no one here.”
“I take it to the seniors at the Acres. What exactly is this project you need help with?” June peered at him.
Nate turned to face her. “It’s an audition video for a television competition. A reality show.”
“What, you’re a singer?” June’s heart dipped. Just her luck. He was a musician surrounded by groupies and having reckless sex every night. Nate laughed out loud, and her nerves hummed.
“No way. I’m a cook. A chef, I mean.” He straightened up and gave a nod like he’d promoted himself.
June was intrigued despite her good sense warning her to step back from her curiosity. “You mean like Top Chef, or that horrible one with the cursing man ... ah, Hell’s Kitchen?”
He nodded and leaned her way. “So you know about them. Yeah, it’s like those, but it’s a new one. The audience votes on it, kind of like American Idol.”
June shook her head. “That doesn’t make any sense. How can someone watching in Idaho know what the food tastes like?”
He shrugged, and she was again distracted by those shoulders. He must lift really heavy bags of potatoes every day. “I have no idea. But they want another tape from me, and there’s this long list of things they want to see before they bring me out to Hollywood. Or Burbank maybe. I’m not sure where they’re filming it.”

If you wrote a letter to your MC, what would you say? #Giveaway

I'm a day late getting to this...major apologies to Mr. Nader!!

Better late than never, says I.

What is it? Burdin of Choice, the 2nd installment in the Beasts of Burdin series. I asked Mr. Nader for a personal letter to his MC, Ty Burdin. hehehehe

ENJOY!!!!

~~~oOo~~~
He-hey Ty, my man, how’s life? Everything is pretty good with me, just chilling out with the family and scratching away at these novels, but enough about me, I’m writing this letter because I want to talk to you, Ty. You’re a good dude, I know you are. Yeah, I’ve seen your BS tough guy act, but I know you’ve got a gooey core at the middle. It’s just buried under layers of cigarette smoke, scotch, and snark.
I’m writing this letter to give you a little advice. I know I’m not some hard ass demon hunter working my way through past tragedies; my life isn’t some episode of Grimm or Supernatural. I don’t know what it’s like to have killed or gotten people killed. I’m also not drinking myself into an early grave, well, not too early of a grave anyway. So, if you’ll stop with the babble and rhetoric I’d like to tell you something.
You need to calm down. Seriously, man. Take it freaking easy. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate and the Agency gave you the raw end of the deal a while back—I was there, I remember. You’ve put the world on your shoulders and you don’t have to. Take a day off. Take a week off. Kick your shoes under the desk, lay back, and watch some Netflix or something.
You need to get your rest. It’s good for your health and on top of that, I’ve gotten a glimpse into your future. That saying, it’s always darkest just before the dawn? Well, hunker down because it’s barely even midnight and you’re going to have to keep the wolves at bay a bit longer.
That’s all I’ve got for you. I decided to write it out and send it to you. What says care more than a hand-written letter coming from the mailbox? Besides, this way you’re too far away to kick my ass when you don’t like what you read in here.
Have a good day, Ty. Take care of you and your family. This goes without saying, but I imagine they’re all in danger.
Sincerely,
Alexander Nader
Ty Burdin is back. Back to drinking and back to avoiding demons. He is, of course, the leading expert in his field. In both subjects.
That’s probably why, when a customer offers him way too much money just to locate a missing car and some mysterious cargo, he readily agrees. The dude is human after all—Ty’s prime target client base.
Along with the money comes a slew of disappearances which Ty tries to ignore while tracking down that car, because, of course, those missing people might be demon related, and as he’s said before, that’s agency business. Not his. Period.
Until today.
Ty Burdin is to back drinking as well as everything he vowed never to get involved with again.
Question is, which one will kill him first? The booze, the demons, or the Agency?
Enjoy Time Travel Romance? Check out C.R. Moss and her newest release! #Excerpt
Hi all! Thank you for having me here today! :)
I’m pleased to share information about my new release, Journey Across Time, and the first book, Dream Across Time, with everyone. Journey Across Time is the second book in a renewed series of mine, which is now called Raritan Manor Ranch.
Many years ago in a state far away (Texas at that time), I started to write romance. Before that, as some of you may already know, I’d been into writing horror. Still am, but that’s a tale for another day under my other pen name. Anyway, at that time, I came up with ideas for a few stories that revolved around a particular family and a matchmaking cat who all lived in New Jersey. New Jersey is where I’d been born (even more years ago) and raised.
There was a house and piece of property up the road from my family’s place that I’d been enamored with and considered buying if it were ever to find itself on the market. Obviously, I never did make that particular real estate purchase since I live over two thousand miles away from it now, but I did the next best thing. I used it as the house in the series, though please note, I’ve taken artistic liberties with its architectural plans. ;) The house on the cover does resemble what it looks like in real life. One of the pics I’ve included for this post is a blurry one, taken when hubby and I drove past it one day.
Some of you might notice that the first two stories (and the third one once it becomes available) seem familiar. The first three books in the Raritan Manor Ranch series had found a publishing home once upon a time, but alas, as some relationships go, that wasn’t meant to be a lifetime one. Back in their ex’s home, they had different titles and a different series name. Now the books have been given new life through Evernight Publishing. The fictional house and family in the stories have relocated to Nevada, word count has been added, the stories have been re-edited, and the current series title pays homage to a river in NJ that I grew up near. And, yes, the cat (who is modeled after my own fur baby) still plays a part in the stories.
Thanks for giving me a few minutes of your time! I do hope you’ll check out this series and my other books. :)
While at the ranch, Alex VanAlder arrives for a visit, and Evelyn’s hopes rise. Perhaps she will be able to have a real relationship after all. Alex, though, has no interest in Evelyn. Yet, every time the house cat, Myrddin, comes around, Alex feels like a man possessed and wants Eve with a passion.
Caught between loving a ghost and putting up with a man who can’t make up his mind, Evelyn is at a loss. Can the magic of the ranch help Evelyn to stop being caught between two worlds?
Journey Across Time by C.R. Moss
Raritan Manor Ranch, 2
Genres: Erotic, Paranormal, Time Travel, Romance
Heat Level: 3
Approx. Word Count: 23,750
There is magic on the ranch.
A woman examining life. A man on a quest. Time restores his spirit and her love.
Trent, a man in the past on a mission to discover where he belongs, embarks on a spiritual journey. His spirit guide, to his dismay, is a frisky feline named Myrddin. During a ritual, the cat brings the soul searcher forward into Julie VanAlder’s world.
Julie is attracted to the newcomer on the ranch, but his strange mannerisms and speech dictate she use caution, especially when she learns where he’s from. A botched relationship, supposed time travel, spiritual mumbo jumbo…it’s almost too much for Julie to take.
Can Trent make her believe in destiny and win her love before it’s too late?
Excerpt
But now Trent doesn’t even look like he was ever affected by the car ride. Amazed at how much energy he had, she sat up and crossed her legs. Boy, what a sight he is.
Trent, shirtless and showing off his built body, strolled from the water, moving with precision. The women around her tittered, whispering fast and lewd phrases about “the hunk.” Her gaze swung to one group of females whose attentions and words confirmed their obvious appraisals of the man. She looked back at Trent. His quadriceps rippled with each stride, fighting against the sand’s resistance. He stopped and wiped his forehead. Beads of water trailed down his light brown skin, glistening on him like pixie dust. He bent over, then quickly straightened. His long black hair made an arc in the air, casting off the seawater. Trent ran his fingers through his slick and shiny locks.
Poseidon come to life. Beautiful Greek god incarnate. Julie sighed. No wonder he's making the women flap their lips. If one of her girlfriends were nearby, she’d be chatting up a storm with them about him too.
Her pussy warmed, as did her breasts. He seemed to be a heady dose of sizzling hormones just by looking at him, making her body flush with desire that rolled into a burning need.
She shook her head. Stop thinking about how handsome he is! Just friends. That's all it can be. With him or any man since I don’t want my heart broken again.
He sauntered over and retrieved a bottle of water from a cooler. After taking a long draught, he proceeded to dump the water over his head. He ran his fingers through his wet hair again. A mischievous glint twinkled in his eyes. His gaze traveled over her, then to the other sunbathers around them. A smile lit his face and faint lines creased around his deep brown eyes, slanted provocatively.
She lifted an eyebrow. “What’s that look for?”
He chuckled. “I am astounded by all the scantily clad women…showing much more than just an ankle.” He watched a tall, thin blonde dressed in a bikini walk by, his head turning as she passed. “How decadent and scandalous...arousing, actually. I may not be able to contain myself.” His gaze whipped back to Julie and he winked.
Drawn to him by his charm, Julie rolled her eyes and smiled back. She couldn’t help it. Talk about arousing. His six-pack abs were right there, two feet from her face. All she’d have to do was lean forward, extend her hand, trail a finger along the dark divots of the muscles.
