Author Interviews with Summer's Sweet Embrace authors! @RoanePublishing #Romance #Anthology #Giveaway

Author Interview Time!!

I asked the authors of Summer's Sweet Embrace about their favorite summertime memory with their spouse / significant other. Here's what they had to say...

~~~oOo~~~
Michelle Ziegler:
I’m assuming building the deck, although a great memory, is not what you were thinking?  Okay, fine. Summer memory.  I have to say it was our first annual 4th of July party.  It rained so hard that not much went to plan.  This was BK – before kids. My husband and his friends were kids enough for us though.  The burgers were chard thanks to the monsoon hitting and the air conditioner wasn’t working right. When it came time for fireworks, my husband was not to be deterred. He got a blow torch and braved the storm. Yes, firework will light up, go off, and crackle in rain. It might not be super romantic, except that my husband knows I love fireworks and I am very patriotic. I still laugh remembering how drenched my husband was and the large goofy grin as each fountain erupted.
Laurie Treacy:
Sitting on the beach roasting s’mores over a fire, talking and singing.
Christa MacDonald:
My family rents a beach house every summer.  Our big crowd means huge family meals and playing games late into the night.  It's loud, close, and hardly private but thoroughly wonderful.  Every trip though, my husband makes a point of stealing me away for at least one solo walk on the beach.  We stare up at the stars while sitting on the sand and just enjoying the moment alone.  Okay, there's some kissing too.
Kim Strattford:
Eating raw oysters off our dock and then raspberries off our bushes on the Fourth of July.
Jaylee Austin:
On a trip to the British Isles, we visited English Pubs, visited Wales, explored castles and kissed the blarney stone in Ireland. Those were an enjoyable three weeks of food, shopping, exploration, and love.
Niki Mitchell:
I spent one Fourth of July watching fireworks from a boat on the Colorado River with my now husband’s arms wrapped around me.
Melissa J. Crispin:
 Many years ago, my husband had a 1970 Toyota Landcruiser that he had fixed up. On a perfect summer day, he would take the top off of it and we would drive around. I have fond memories of those days, with the warm sun on my skin and the wind in my hair. There was a freedom about it that’s difficult to put into words. I was sad when he had to get rid of it. Though to be fair, probably not nearly as sad as he was! But, he recently picked up another one to restore, so we’ll get to do it all over again eventually. I’m looking forward to it.
Sheryl Winters:
I started dating my husband in the middle of the summer. I remember I took a day off work and we drove up to Hatcher's Pass. It's a mountainous area with a river that runs through it. We kicked back and ate beef jerky and drank Diet Pepsi. We investigated a beaver's dam and I surprised him by climbing out to get a better look.
Author Interview: Sonny Zae author of #medieval #fantasy #romance
I'm thrilled to have Sonny Zae here today to ask a couple of question for the Love Elixir Antidote blog tour!
Check out the giveaway below!
~~~oOo~~~

Who would you say is your favorite character(s) from your books, and why? What is it about this character that makes him/her tick?

I cannot say Sonny Zaeffom, naturally, as that would be nakedly self-serving.  I do not say that out of a false modesty, as I do not possess modesty of any sort.  I would say such a thing if the editor would not take a sword to my words—and might well get carried away once committed to hacking.

I suppose it would be Pugloria, if for nothing more than her unshakeable belief in her own attractiveness.  She is undeterred by rejections and unwavering in her pursuit, even though a wild sow's face would be more pleasant to stare into.  Pugloria's teeth are better than a wild sow's in that they are not quite tusks.  Her hair is the colour of fall leaves after they have fallen and begun to rot, clumped together in damp piles under the trees.  She would not pause in her pursuit even if a mirror were thrust in front of her.  Her face might shatter the mirror in advance of throwing back her malign visage.  So one simply has to admire such blind, ignorant determination.  What she lacks in good qualities she makes up for in bad qualities.

Do you have a schedule of when you write?

No, just generally in the morning, when I am more creative.  That is also when I come up with my best schemes for liberating coins from the many dullards who surround me.

In addition, I grab time when I can get it, and think up good stories and good lies for when I might next need them.  When being pursued by an angry shopkeeper or husband is no time for conjuring a good excuse.  So I dream up a healthy stock of them, even though I detest performing work in advance.  That is not entirely accurate, however, as I detest work generally.

What elements do you think make a great story line?

Interesting characters, characters with real and deep flaws, persons who are thrust into situations they are not equipped to deal with.

But I am jesting again, as the best story lines are those that tell about me and my life.  I could talk about myself forever and never lack for stories to recite—including true ones.

Have you gotten feedback from family about your book(s)? What do they think?

They give me strange, side-long glances, then suddenly remember some urgent appointment or activity.  I should rent out my services as the world's most effective memory aid.

Where do you as an author draw the line on gory descriptions and/or erotic content?

I draw the line around it, and encircle it.  Then, I add arrows to the material, plus stars and other symbols to draw peoples' attention to my incredible creativity.

Hey PLANNERS: Do your characters veer off course? #WritersLife Interview with Rachel Brimble

I'm thrilled to have author Rachel Brimble here today!! Along with a little interview, is the info on her latest historical romance, What a Woman Desires.

GREAT read, folks! Be sure to add it to GOODREADS!

Onto the interview...

Tell us about your latest book.

What A Woman Desires is my third Victorian romance with eKensington/Lyrical Press. All these romances are set in and around Bath, England (just a thirty minute drive from where I live!). What A Woman Desires is a reunion romance centering around my heroine, Monica Danes, an upper-middle class lady turned actress and her family’s groom, Thomas Ashby.

Although the attraction was always there between them, being together was an impossibility and finally came to an end when Monica left the small village of Biddestone to pursue her dream of being an actress. When she is called back home after her father died, the heat between her and Thomas is still very much there…

Is there anything you find particularly challenging about writing?

The plotting…always! I start each both by writing character sketches for my hero and heroine (and villain, if I have one) and then a three to four page synopsis. After this, I start writing. More often than not, the characters veer off course from my original synopsis and I just have to play along. They’re in charge! Of course, this often leads to me hitting a roadblock around the 40,000 word mark.

When this happens, I force myself to write through it and worry about making the manuscript shine in the following drafts!

How did you deal with rejection letters?

The only way a writer can—read them, accept any advice that resonates with you, make any changes and resubmit elsewhere. Once a determined writer treats a rejection letter as a learning tool, the whole process becomes much more enjoyable and they will inevitably keep going.

What tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?

A deep love of books and the written word, tenacity, belief and a determination to write something every single day.

~~~oOo~~~
From country girl to actress of the stage, one woman dares to live her dreams—but is she brave enough to open her heart…?
Monica Danes always wanted more than the village of Biddestone had to offer. After a failed courtship to a man of her parents’ choosing, she fled for the city of Bath and never looked back. Today, Monica is the undisputed queen of the theater—a wealthy, independent woman. But when she is called home in the wake of tragedy, Monica returns—intending to leave again as soon as possible.
Thomas Ashby has been a groom at the Danes estate since he was a boy—and has been enamored with Monica for almost as long. He knows he isn’t a suitable match for his master’s daughter, despite the special bond he and Monica have always shared—and their undeniable attraction. But now that she’s returned, Thomas has one last chance to prove himself worthy—and to show Monica a life, and a love, she won’t want to give up...
Cowboy Up! Bestselling boxed set of #Contemporary #Westerns
Today, I have the lovely Sara Walter Ellwood, author of one of the seven stories in the Cowboy Up boxed set!
A few questions, and we'll get to the goods...
~~~oOo~~~

Plotter or Pantser?

I’m a hybrid, I guess. I don’t really plot, meaning I don’t do some of the crazy things I’ve heard others do—like index cards for every scene or elaborate outlines. But do have a real idea of where my stories are going, especially once I hit the half to two-thirds mark in a story. I will draft a synopsis sort of narrative so that I know exactly how much of story I have to tell. From this, I can gage how long a book will be. However, that first half or so is just writing by the seat of my pants. The beginnings are never plotted.

E-books, print, or both? Any preferences? Why?

E-books… I love my Kindle.

Do you read books more than once? If so, name one. What's special about it?

Yes, though I haven’t re-read something in a long time. The series I’ve read about three times is John Jakes’ North and South trilogy (I’ve read the first two books; I didn’t like the third book.)  I used to be a huge Civil War buff and I love John Jakes. I’ve read most of his books more than once.

What's the strangest thing you've ever done in the name of research?

I really can’t think of anything. Although, after an editor questioned me on something that I had one of my ex-military characters do, I did ask one of the active duty Army Captains at my work about it—and was thrilled to find out I was right!

Music while you write? What kind?

Sometimes, if I’m in the mood. And it’s always country.

Do your characters have sex on the page? On which page do they have their first sexual encounter?

I write hot, so there are no closed doors in my books. And as for when the sex happens, that varies, but it usually happens just before the middle of the story.

What triggered the story behind your latest release?

Chasing a Cowboy, part of the boxed set COWBOY UP, got its inspiration from the recent Dierks Bentley single, “Drunk on a Plane.” My hero isn’t drunk on a plane, but he is a jilted groom who goes to Mexico to the resort where he was to have his honeymoon, just like the narrator in the song.

You can invite anyone, alive or dead, or a fictional character (your own included), to dinner. Who would you invite and why?

Don’t laugh, but I’m going with the very first person who popped in my mind as I read the question. I’d love to have dinner with Jesus. Not just to discuss religion, but to talk about life in general and to gain understanding of why things happen in the world that just don’t make sense.

 What kitchen utensil would you be? Why?

            LOL…. A Knife? Because no one messes with knives and they are respected, if for no other reason than out of fear…. Though, I don’t want to be scary. So, maybe just a little bitty paring knife.

Dogs or cats? Or gerbils or birds? Or fish?

Cats.  Though, I love birds too—in my garden, especially cardinals.

Seven men as tough as the west… Seven women who know how to COWBOY UP.
A bestselling boxed set of contemporary westerns for every cowboy lover…

Always, Cowboy by Allison Merritt—The past is better left behind, unless it offers a brighter future.

Cowboys Don’t Cry by Vickie Taylor—A broken cowboy with nothing left to lose…except his heart.
A Cowboy’s Heart by Leslie Garcia—Teenage lovers torn apart by betrayal. Have seventeen years changed everything—or nothing?

The Heartsong Cowboy by Melissa Keir—Can two people, one horse and the power of love cure a little girl?

Cowboy Trouble by Autumn Piper—She’s decided to make some bad choices this weekend.

Chasing a Cowboy by Sara Walter Ellwood—He’s running from heartbreak. She’s chasing after love… Their hearts will never be the same.

Cowboy Bred, Cowboy Born by D’Ann Lindun—Freedom or family?  Only love can make the choice.

#AuthorInterview : Linda Caroll-Bradd, Romance Writer

Today my fellow Christmas Magic author, the lovely Linda Caroll-Bradd, has agreed to let me pick her brain! Thanks so much for visiting, Linda.

Thanks for hosting me, Terri.

Let's get started. What inspired Wishes Come True?

Because I didn’t grow up in a small town, I always wished I lived in one and think I’ve probably idealized that experience and. So I reversed that set-up—imagined a woman who’d grown up in a small town and wanted to get out, to explore.

What comes first for you – the story or the character?

Character. I need to imagine the person first (archetype, a couple personality quirks, sometimes the name) and then I put that character in a setting that usually is part of why the goal isn’t met.

If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?

Thirty-six—the age I was after my youngest daughter was born. My nuclear family was complete.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Offer college tuition to my adult children.  A career life without a degree is tough and a college education is such a future-shaping experience.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

Elizabeth Bennett, heroine of my favorite book. She’s smart, witty, stands up for herself, and is willing to reassess her opinions.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Changes That Made Me Stronger

Can you keep secrets? Describe a time you didn't.

When I was about ten, I peeked at a Christmas present that was to be shared by my two sisters and me. Of course, our parents had forbidden us to look at the blanket-covered block behind the sofa. For a week before the big day, I knew what our present was. Although I didn’t admit it aloud, I had totally spoiled my parents’ secret and wrecked my own surprise.

Can you tell us what you’re working on now?

I’m working on a historical story with a working title of Mirror Images featuring a heroine (a twin) who left behind a career on the New York burlesque stage to become a teacher in a frontier Wyoming territory town. The hero is a lawyer by day and dime novelist by night who writes about his experiences coming to the frontier and his adventures in gold mining. Halfway through the story, the twin sister arrives and causes havoc with the “good” sister’s reputation. So far, I’m having great fun with the research.

On December 20th, I’m holding a drawing for a copy of Christmas Magic for those who either subscribe to my blog at http://blog.lindacarroll-bradd.com or follow me at my author Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Linda-Carroll-Bradd-author/440814942635289

BLURB FOR WISHES COME TRUE:

Tora can’t wait to sell the family bakery run by generations of Hammond women and seek excitement outside of Dorado, Texas. Widower Ryan Dawson, the town’s star quarterback from a decade ago, returns to his hometown with plans to develop a sporting goods store. He also hopes a small town Christmas will cheer up his five-year-old daughter, Jenna, still recovering from the loss of her mother. Will the spark of interest Tora sees in Ryan’s eyes be the excitement she’s looking for?

Meet The Headliner of #MakeBelieve J.A. Belfield

Welcome to the final interview of my week-long Meet The Author fest! We're focusing on the six lovely ladies of the Make Believe Anthology from J. Taylor Publishing that released December 3rd!

Today we're meeting with the headliner.

 J.A. Belfield

Author of the Holloway Pack Series.

Thanks for joining me here at SS. First off, tell us why we should read your story.

Because it rocks! Ha! Okay, more sensibly: because it’s pretty insane: action, hawt dudes, supernatural happenings, extortion, crappy exes, tension, twists & turns, friendship & loyalty, romance … all wrapped up in 14000 words.

What is the first thing you thought of upon seeing the picture prompt for the Make Believe Anthology?

That I needed to alter my story a little? Ha!
Okay, fess up time: I actually already had the inkling of a storyline in my head from the moment I was asked to front the anthology—at which point I hadn’t seen the picture prompt. So then, when the picture prompt came through, I realized I had some tweaking to do to try and incorporate the image into the story in my head.

Which came first: The story or the character?

Definitely the character. I had Cole, my MC in my head, and I knew she’d be booking an escort for the night—enter Benjamin Gold—but I had no idea at this point what her reasons for booking one would be, just that some crazy stuff would end up happening and the evening wouldn’t go exactly as planned/expected. So I opened up a Doc, started typing, ended up with an opening scene that I could work with and that gave me a decent feel for the MC, then wandered off and left it to stew. By the time I returned to it, I had a clearer feel for where it was headed—though I did get so far through, decide I didn’t like where I’d taken the characters, and so deleted around 2000 words and altered their course. I got it how I wanted in the end, though. J

How did you choose your setting?

My settings are usually chosen by picking whichever English county takes my fancy, and then creating a fictional town/village and venues and planting them down in there—that way, I can write the scenes however I need them to be without totally angering the locals with my lack of accuracy.

Is there a moral behind your story?

Yes! Booking an escort is a baaaaaad idea! Ha!
Nah, I’m just kidding. It’s more like: everyone has an inner strength; sometimes a person has to be put to the test before they look deep enough within to find their own.

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

When I was allowed to make my own sandwiches for school (usually when my parents were still in bed and couldn’t see what I was getting up to), I’d first smother my bread in ketchup instead of margarine, then place millimeter-thick slices of cheese on there, and then meticulously slice pickled onions to layer over the cheese. Looking back, I can’t believe nobody ever complained about my breath, lol.

What is your favorite body part?

O_O
You mean my own? Or in general? I think pretty much the entire rear end of a bloke is the ultimate eye candy (if they’re fairly toned)—from his shoulders, down over his blades, to the small in his back just above where they nearly always have twin dimples to lead the way to their arse … Nom. ;)
As for my own? Dude! I dunno. I have nice clavicles?

If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?

30. I’d had my kids but I didn’t look so much like I had had kids. ;)

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Probably cry. Then scream. Then have a heart attack. *snort*

If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?

Merit from the Chicagoland Vampires series. But not forever. Just for the good bits. Ha!

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Do You Have Any Syrup To Go With That Waffle? (<<all thanks to Aimee Laine
Look out for it, guys! Coming to a store near you soon! *snicker*

What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?

Where I grew up was not only on the edge of the town where I lived, but also on the edge of our village within that town. And walking around 80 yards to around the corner would take me to a view of nothing but farmers’ fields. From there, walking a little ways right would take me to the road to the countryside, as well as to the entrance to Langley Mill.
Langley Mill wasn’t the kind of place parents wanted their kids hanging around. Naturally, I tended to go there quite a bit. I was never very good at concealing it, though—especially when I’d turn up with a bucket of frogspawn I’d caught. ;)

What is something you learned in school that you think is useless to you today?

Algebra.
I mean, dude, come on … what was the point?

If you could move anywhere, where would you go and why?

I’d move into The Rectory—a house I’ve seen for sale in Pembrokeshire (but way out of my price range, lol).
Why? Well, it’s just so serene and peaceful. Whilst there are only a handful of other properties on the lane, the Rectory has a high stone wall surrounding it, with a circling brook that you need to drive through to hit the driveway, and the neighbor opposite is a traditional church. To the rear of the property is a matted woodland and a couple of fields … Do I need to say more?

Can you keep secrets? Describe a time you didn't.

Yes! *Nods head*
What do you mean, describe a time I didn’t? (Psst, I can’t fess up to those. My friends might read this. Ha!)
