Well, folks, It's official.

I booked my first book signing - and I'm nervous as all get-out. It's not for another month, and already I'm worrying my nails to nubs. Why? I'm not a super people person. I get tongue tied and always feel like I say the stupidest things.

The thought of sitting there while twiddling my thumbs, hoping - PRAYING - someone will stop by makes me feel like this...

Yeah. NOT cool.

The book signing is taking place at Evangelical Community Hospital's gift shop. I used to work in the pharmacy there, so I'm hoping to at least know a few peeps. Perhaps that'll make my nervousness a little less?

Doubtful.

If any of you live in the Central Pennsylvania area & want to stop by to say howdy, here's the Facebook Page event info.

I'm imagining you all waving your pom poms today, encouraging me, and I'll keep that image in mind for the 'BIG DAY'.

~~~oOo~~~
Have any of YOU done a signing? Been to one? Suggestions? Thoughts? I'd love some input!!
  1. Are you doing a reading? That often helps give visibility and helps generate relevant conversation about the book.
  2. If you are nervous about what to say to people, prepare a few leading questions to ask people while you are signing their book. People love to talk about themselves. Also bring a bottle of water and your favorite pen.
    Try to relax and enjoy it. People are generally nice.
  3. Bring someone with you. Someone very outgoing! Don't stress - you'll be fine.
  4. You should check out Liz Blocker's post (http://lizblocker.blogspot.com/2014/06/insecure-writers-dont-be-afraid-of.html), Julie Flanders' (http://julieflanders.blogspot.com/2014/06/iwsg-flight-fest-with-tyrean-martinson.html), and one Loni Townsend did a while ago about her book signing (http://www.lonitownsend.com/2014/03/throwing-glitter-screen-first-book-signing/). They'll all prepare you and make you feel better.
    Oh, and there there's one I did. It might help, too.
    Good luck! I bet it won't be nearly as bad as you think.
    (That seems to be the general consensus. ;)
  5. Oh, I'm sure you're going to have a blast at your book signing. I can't wait to have one of my own. I would be nervous, but also so excited. I wish I could stop by for a while to keep you company, but I live in Florida. Just take a deep breath and no matter how it turns our, you get major props for doing it!
  6. A book signing -- how exciting! Congratulations! I'd be really nervous, too. Rehearsing ahead of time might make it easier. Think about things you can say. Make notes if you need to. That kind of thing helps me when I have to do anything in public. Good luck!
  7. I would have never guessed you'd be nervous. Well, I know you'll do fine, more than fine. You're just too inspiring to do otherwise. And I'd be there if I could. :-)
  10. Cool. Your first book signing. I'm sure there will be many more to come.
    I've been to a few book signings myself (not my own) and everyone is always so nervous about meeting the author and not knowing what to say, that you'll soon find yourself the most relaxed person in the place. Good luck.
