THE WOLF PRINCE!

The Wolf Prince
A Shifter Romance Novella
Publisher: Roane Publishing
Release Date: June 19, 2017

Keywords: Werewolf, Celtic, Irish, Dublin, shapeshifter, sidhe, fairies, fey, magic, prophecy

Claire O’Neil grew up hearing stories from her grandmother’s Irish homeland.  Her grandmother seemed to be personally acquainted with exotic fairies, mischievous pixies, even powerfully seductive shape-shifters.  On the eve of the older woman’s funeral, Claire is visited again by strangely erotic dreams which began on her sixteenth birthday, dreams which leave her breathless and aroused by the shadowy presence of a mysterious stranger.  At the funeral itself, she is approached by a foreigner who carries a letter from her grandmother.  Following the instructions in the letter, Claire is whisked away to Ireland to discover the legacy left behind by her grandmother.

Once in the Emerald Isle Claire is stunned to learn that her grandmother’s stories were real: the Dubh Sidhe and the Four Fey Courts of Dublin do exist.   More shockingly, an ancient prophecy has tied their fate to hers. At a chance encounter Claire comes face-to-face with the stranger from her dreams, and breathless doesn’t begin to describe the effect he has on her!  As she finds herself caught between rivals for leadership of the shape-shifters, Claire is kidnapped and held in seclusion by the mysterious stranger’s brother as part of their battle for leadership of the their family.  Only Claire can help the mysterious stranger to save himself and his clan from losing their power forever.  If she chooses to…and if she can accept that passion can take many forms.

GUEST POST:

Ireland…right? Emerald green hills, misty mornings, mysterious corners of auld Dublin town…it all cries out “listen…we want to tell you a story!”
At the time I wrote The Wolf Prince, I was living in Dublin as the plus-one for a corporate rotation.  My partner had to go to the office every day…I went, well, wherever I wanted.
I soon discovered that every part of Dublin has its own unique character.  And I don’t mean like any town has its own personality.  I mean different blocks on the same street are like entirely separate worlds.  And the parks…oh, the parks!  Three in particular drew me again and again.
St. Stephen’s Green is neutral ground where everybody can gather and it has a little bit of everything.  Iveagh Gardens is a secret corner with fallen down statues and old fountains that brood over the few picnickers who find their way there.  Marlay Park is a wild place where you just KNOW the Fae linger in the moonlight hoping that a human child wanders by.  Each has its own soul.
And yet…
There is something that connects them all.  I wandered through them, my pen and notebook in hand, feeling that somehow Iveagh knew that I had just been in St. Stephen’s…and when visiting Marlay Park it was like the wildlife had heard from their relatives closer to town that it was ok to let me pass. Knowledge seemed to pass like a breeze through the tree branches, through the very air of what they call the Fair City.
I became more and more convinced of that connection.  And, over my various visits I started to sense some population, some group of inhabitants just out of reach of our human perception active behind the scenes. At one point, I saw a sign for Dublin’s “Four Courts” and I had a revelation.  Ireland used to be four separate kingdoms.  And now, what remains just out of sight out is fairy legacy of four separate courts, each distinct, but each connect in this hidden, shadow Dublin.  Each has its politics, its squabbles and, like the town, its own distinct character.  As the wildest of the urban parks, it felt right that the Marlay court of “Sidhe” (pronounced “she”) would be the wildest, the most animal…the shapeshifters.

Then all I had to do was listen…and this story and others came to me…so if you happened to be passing through St. Stephen’s Green some time back and saw a woman with ice-blond hair being watched over by a plump, elegant swan while chatting with a stranger scribbling frantically to capture everything…that stranger was me…and as for what I was working so hard to capture, well, that’s the story you’ll find in The Wolf Prince.  The city told me many tales during my stay, but this was the first. I hope you enjoy it!
p.s. I love hearing from readers!  Please feel free to drop me a note at jayeraymee@gmail.com and I look forward to hearing from you!

The Shucker's Booktique by J.C. McKenzie #UF #Fae #Giveaway #Excerpt

The Shucker’s Booktique
Lobster Cove
By: J.C. McKenzie
Publisher: The Wild Rose Press
Paranormal / UF / Shapeshifters / Fae

After her fiancé dumps her and her beloved Aunt Jenny goes missing, Willa Eklund travels to Lobster Cove with a broken heart to search for Jenny while running her bookstore. When a mysterious man visits the Shucker's Booktique on a stormy night drenched in rain and covered in mud, Willa's heart melts under his stormy gaze. She wants Lon and the answers he may have, but he also has a secret. Can Willa trust him?

Lon Devlin is a Tempest, a water sprite who can only take a human form during stormy nights. He rides the waves, lives by the tides, and nothing can hold him down, not even a beautiful woman. When he visits his mortal friend, he discovers she's missing and her intriguing niece has taken her place. He wants Willa, but he also wants answers. What happened to Jenny?

Excerpt:

Thump! Thump! Thump!

No! She gasped. It couldn’t be. The banging on the front door of the booktique had to be a figment of her imagination. She couldn’t will Lon into existence. Why would he come back? Especially if he was involved. Unless…cold ice prickled up her spine…unless he needed to eliminate her to take care of loose ends.

No. Crazy thoughts, Willa. He could’ve taken care of her the night before. No, her heart hammered against her chest for a different reason. But it didn’t matter. The knocking on the door wouldn’t, couldn’t be him.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Could it? She clutched her hot mug in both hands and turned toward the doorway leading to the bookstore. From the kitchen in the back room, she had a clear view through the store to the front door, but not who stood on the other side.

“Willa!” Lon growled. “Wake up and let me in!”

Willa gasped and almost dropped her cup. The tea sloshed around and some spilled over her hands. It burned, but she didn’t move. She couldn’t breathe. Somehow the air got trapped inside her throat. Why was he here? What did he want?

Oh God, let it be me!

TIED

YA / UF / PNR
Release Date: September 9, 2013

Normal people don't believe their nightmares stalk them. They don’t fall in love with boys who don’t exist, either.

Seventeen-year-old Layla Labelle, though, is far from normal. Her delusions walk the earth. Her hallucinations hunt her, and her skin heats to a burn every time her anger flares.

Or is that all in her head?

Layla doesn't know what to believe any more because if none of that’s true, Max MacLarnon must be an illusion, and her heart must still be broken.

No matter how much she wants to believe Max is real, doing so would mean everything else is, too. How, then, is that possible?

The answers lie in an age-old legend the supernatural aren’t prepared to reveal, and with a curse that could tear Layla and Max apart forever—if it doesn’t kill them both first.

In TIED, book one in the Fire Born trilogy, learning the truth will mean fighting an arsenal of demons, and being with Max will put Layla on a path toward her own destruction.

Just how far will Layla go to protect the one she loves?

The answer may never be far enough ... away.

My Review:

I'll premise this review by stating that I'm not a huge YA / fae fan. This book, though, was pretty good. It's the story of a young woman who believes is losing her mind. Visions and dreams haunt her, convincing her she's insane. The depth of depressing of her plight actually drug on my own emotiols at times, placing me under a cloud even though I sat by a sun-glinting lake while reading.

If an author is able to influence a readers emotions in such a way, they're doing their job!

The lies and mystery surrounding Layla are what kept me turning the pages, and when truth and betrayal are revealed in the end, everything falls into place. While not exactly a satisfying ending, we're definitely ready to go to war, ready to fight with Layla to make things right.

I'm a sucker for having my senses fulfilled while reading, and in this area Tied lacked for me. I want to live the story with the MC - see the 'movie' in motion within my mind. I want to taste what she does, feel what she does. The emotion was there without doubt, but I had problems envisioning and experiencing the surroundings of her world.

If you're a YA and fae fan this is a must read. I'll definitely be waiting for book #2!!

10. Roland from the Kate Daniels series by Illona Andrews.  We haven’t actually met dear old dad yet, but the rumors and threat of him have been woven expertly through the series.

9.   Randall Flag from The Stand by Stephen King.  Badass, evil to the bone.  And in the movie, could rock a pair of Levis and cowboy boots.  J  I love how he’s so certain of his superiority and eventually becomes aware of his flock turning against him.

8.   Nikalaos from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.  What can be creepier and more disturbing than a psychotic child vampire more powerful than you could imagine?  This one is fangs and fright in a frilled dress.

7.   Pennywise from IT by Stephen King.  Clowns have always creeped me out ever since I was little.  If his visually hair-raising looks don’t get you, his mental-screwing will.

6.   Eric Northman from the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.  I love a villain-turned-good guy, and Eric is a top notch one.  Better, is that he’s still pretty villainous even when he’s trying to be good.

5.   Adam Black from the Highlander series.  Adam is a mischievous fae.  Gorgeous, hot, and in a kilt.  He’s stuck his devious little fingers into many other people’s lives and stirred them around.  Until he came up against the woman who undid him.  It was most satisfying.

4.   Prince V’Lane from the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.  SPOILER ALERT.  All the way through the series, I didn’t know what to think of dear V’Lane.  Gorgeous, smooth-talking, sexy as hell supposedly Seelie Prince.  I loved all of the twists to him, and when he turned out to be the main badass, I was utterly stunned.  Well done all the way around.

3.   Olaf/Otto Jeffries from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.  Oh, Olaf, how I love to hate thee.  This hulking, grouchy, woman-hating serial rapist/murderer is entertaining to read about.  It’s even more entertaining when he runs up against Anita Blake and is enamored with her work.  And her body.  If she’ll only kill with him, he won’t come after her.  Brilliant little gem thrown into the series.

2.   Jean Claude from the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.  If I could live in any world of my choosing, it would be in Jean Claude’s world.  He begins as such a treacherous little bastard, mischievous, sexy as sin, and it’s all so subtle I almost overlooked him at first.  I love all of the facets to him that Hamilton adds throughout the series, so we not only see who he is now, but why and how he got that way.

1.   Hannibal Lecter from Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris.  Love me a good psychological going-over, and Hannibal did the job nicely.  Everything about him from the way he smiles to what he says puts him at the top of my all-time favorite villains list.

Rise of the Magi
Lila Gray #3
Paranormal / UF / Fae

In a battle of wills, who is strongest? The one who hates or the one who loves?

In a test of faith, who will fight the hardest? The one who has everything to lose or the one who believes only in herself?

For Lila Gray, the answer is both. For the Magi, the questions are pointless since they can’t lose, and they’ve been waiting since before Lila’s birth for this one moment. Lila only needs to find them to understand her entire purpose in life. This time, though, instead of protecting her people, Lila may be leading them all, including her unborn child and the man she loves, to their deaths — and not by accident.
In the ultimate trial of heart and soul, and the conclusion to the Lila Gray series, Lila will learn that the greatest weapon of war is herself, with one ultimate unknown. For which side will she fight?

Meet the Author

Jocelyn Adams grew up on a cattle farm in Lakefield and has remained a resident of Southern Ontario her entire life, most recently in Muskoka. She has worked as a computer geek, a stable hand, a secretary, and spent most of her childhood buried up to the waist in an old car or tractor engine with her mechanically inclined dad. But mostly, she's a dreamer with a vivid imagination and a love for fantasy (and a closet romantic — shhh!). When she isn't shooting her compound bow in competition or writing, she hangs out with her husband and young daughter at their little house in the woods.

Excerpt – Chapter 1

I choked on the black fear unfurling in my soul, brought on by what would come, what always assaulted me the moment I slipped into unconsciousness. It was stupid to think I could run from it for a third night, but shreds of hope were all that had kept me sane. Primal, cold and so dark it blotted out my Light.
Sleep, more terrifying than anything I’d faced yet, claimed me again.

Standing on the balcony of the new fae castle, I gazed over winding rows of ancient shifter houses, each quiet and seemingly content in slumber, in a night that wasn’t dark. Dark and light all at once—a perfect balance, as if the world hadn’t yet decided which side would win, until the red clouds rolled and curled across the sky like blood spilled into water. Flames, intelligent and ravenous, spread from the east, ready to consume everything and everyone until nothing but ash remained. Heat licked at my skin, growing hotter.
Knowing it was only a dream didn’t keep sweat from pearling along my face and neck or the blue streak of profanity from escaping to color the air. Heart thundering, I gripped the railing while I stared at the coming storm, brain frozen with the puzzle I hadn’t yet solved.

What are you trying to tell me? What am I missing?

From below, shrieks invaded my ears, thundering across the land until they rose into a deafening clatter of sound. The houses came alive with light, moaning as fae spilled into the cobblestone streets and stared skyward before scattering, each filled with agony and despair deep enough there would be no escape from it. Dying. They were dying. My own scream built in my throat, to tell them I would fix it somehow, that I would save them, but it couldn’t find an escape. Nor would my body obey my commands to move, to help them. To do something. Anything.

The scene changed as it always did. I stared down from far above, my limbs turned to torches of white fire. A globe of light around me cast a white wash over the city, over the fae who still ran in every direction.

From me.

I am the storm.

Wings pounding against the wind reached me a moment before a giant snowy owl arrived to hover before me, those golden eyes shining with rage and fear, both inducing immense relief that Liam had come and blinding horror with some distant knowledge that he should have run, too.

My scream pierced the silence as a wail let loose from his beak.

No. No!

“Wake up, Lila. Please, wake up!”

Warmth on my arm jerked me awake.

Damn near hyperventilating, I scrambled out of bed and landed on my hands and knees on the hardwood without a stitch of clothing on, unsure if the room spun or if I was just dizzy. When Liam approached, his eyes haunted and glassy, a chilled realization hit me and stalled my breath until my lungs ached with need. What if the storm hadn’t been a dream?

The Glass Man - #AtoZChallenge

The Glass Man
Lila Gray #1
Paranormal / Fae

Lila Gray is just a human — at least that's her mantra when she accidentally topples a building or bends a paranoid local's gun into modern art. That she can sense and control the minds around her doesn't prove anything, either. Unwilling to put others at risk, she hides in the wilderness from the beautiful creature who hunts her, one who sees her as his ultimate prize.

Alone, the egocentric Glass Man can kill with a thought. Mated with Lila, he's a supernatural weapon prepared to annihilate the humans he loathes.

Caught in the Glass Man's latest scheme, Lila is plunged into a hidden fae realm, faced with a secret birthright and a forbidden romance.

With the Glass Man threatening everyone she loves, can Lila accept who she is in time to end his bloody reign? Or will she succumb to his dark power and become the vehicle of destruction for the human race?

Excerpt:

I plunged my knife into a log and pried against the bark, hop- ing for a squirming morsel to quiet my rumbling stomach. The thought of choking down another fat grub or crunching on a cricket made me gag, but berry season had ended a few weeks before, and I couldn’t find anything else. Autumn in the north was pretty, but the cuisine sucked.
A scream pierced the silence. My hand flinched, causing the knife tip to break through the rotten wood and stab into the side of my other hand. “Shit!” I applied some pressure to stop the bleeding until the skin knitted back together.
The sound came again—a piteous, frightened cry. Damn. What now? My presence alone could put an entire town in danger, but if I didn’t check the source, my conscience would chew at me for weeks. With a sigh, I folded my jackknife before slipping it into my pocket. After shouldering my backpack, I stuffed my hair beneath my black cap and tossed a handful of leaves over the matted grass I’d knelt on.

Instinct pointed me west.
A third instance of the call stabbed at my heart.
I sprinted through a thick stand of trees crowned with golden

leaves, clinging to a small hope the problem might resolve itself before I arrived. No amount of wishing ever made it come true. After running for several minutes, the forest thinned out. Light cut wider swaths through the dense shadows along the ground. I picked up the pace until I broke through the edge of the woods and stopped on a ridge.

A sprawling farm sat at the bottom of a deep valley, sporting

a black barn, silo and an old fashioned house with a giant wrap- around porch. Acres of gnarled apple trees stretched beyond it as far as I could see. Who’d put a farm in the middle of nowhereville Pennsylvania?

I’d happened upon lots of orchards in the populated part of the state, but I hadn’t seen a town for days, only wilderness not fit for girl or beast. Power lines snaked along the southern ridge. I shouldn’t have been anywhere near a town unless I’d somehow veered off my intended course. The downy hairs on the back of my neck took notice and sent a prickle along my back.

I bent down to pluck a flock of burrs from my shoelaces while I scanned the buildings for signs of movement. Nothing stirred or made a sound to disturb the quiet evening.

The scream had to have come from down there; my instincts were never wrong.

Maybe my wish had come true for once, and I wouldn’t have to intervene? I’d wait just in case and satisfy the nag that occupied the background of my thoughts.

I crouched in the damp grass. The sun edged closer to the jag- ged line of conifers on the western ridge. Half an hour slipped by with nothing more exciting than a squirrel cussing me out from a nearby maple. I shrugged. Perfect. Civilization’s descent toward anarchy had made it hard for me to remain in obscurity even from nature’s own creatures.

I headed south along the rim of the valley, reminding myself of my own rule: don’t draw attention to self. Before I made it ten paces, energy, like a warm kiss upon the wind, pulsed through the air.
