WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT LOVE'S SORROW!

5 Harleys!! - Harlie's Book Reviews

"Do yourself a favor and buy this book.  Put it on the top of your TBR pile and spend a day with Anne and Gavin.  You will feel gutted, stunned and just plain open-mouthed in the end.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you but this book is not to be ignored.  Ms. Rochenski has written a brilliantly, in some ways brutal, book that everyone must read and then come back and cry with me.  Only 7 months until the next book."

 5 Stars! - Amazon Review
"This is not a cookie cutter romance that can be found in every bookstore. I applaud Terri Rochenski for writing the truth about Love. It can be faked, and people learn everyday in all walks of life that they have been used by people that they thought loved them.

I’m excited to see Anne’s journey continues with Love’s Revenge. It is a book I'll definitely read."

5 Stars! - Amazon Review
"I have to admit when I read the blurb and first started reading Love's Sorrow I though it was a very well written but run of the mill historical romance, but don't be mistaken I do not at all regret reading this book in fact I am avidly awaiting the next installment and believe me if I could help Terri Rochenski in any way for it to be out earlier I would."

4 Stars! - Amazon Review
"If you want a feel-good, not-too-realistic romance, don’t read this book. If you want a realistic depiction of London in the 1800s, society’s prejudices, people’s selfishness and love and all its agony, this is the book for you."

What I'm offering...

Hired as a nanny for her cousin’s children, Anne Tearle finds security and a loving family. The children are a dream, but London society is a world of its own, one where a displaced farm girl has no business being. But, wealthy rake, Gavin MacKay, helps her to see associating with the upper class might not be as horrid as she first assumed.

Like all things worthwhile, love comes at a price, and the cost soon bestows more anguish than joy. Lost, but not undone, Anne must find the courage to begin life anew, or succumb to sorrow's unrelenting waves of grief.

Embittered by betrayal, Anne MacKay flees London for America, where she learns she's pregnant with her abusive husband’s longed-for heir. In a society that doesn’t protect, or afford a well-to-do wife’s desire for divorce, Anne decides there is one way to exact revenge: deny the father any knowledge of his child.

Sought after by her husband’s henchmen, Anne travels by rail and horseback, far from civilization where silk and stays are worn, let alone thought of. Lies and deceit protect her identity for a time, allowing her to birth—and grow to love—the child who was supposed to be her vengeance.

With the help of her loyal and protective business partner, Jude Connagher, and the ranch hands in their Montana Territory valley, Anne attempts to rebuild her life under the shadow of her husband’s wrath.

One unwise decision lands Anne in her pursuers’ clutches, tearing her from the ranch, her child, and her growing love for the one man who could redeem her from bitterness. She's left with no choice but to finally face her husband, knowing her freedom and life hang in the balance.

Terri started writing stories in the 8th grade, when a little gnome whispered in her brain. Gundi’s Great Adventure never hit the best seller list, but it started a long love affair with storytelling.

Today she enjoys an escape to Middle Earth during the rare ‘me’ moments her three young children allow. When not playing toys, picking them back up, or kissing boo-boos, she can be found sprawled on the couch with a book or pencil in hand, and toothpicks propping her eyelids open.

#WhyIStayed - Anne from Love's Revenge shares her story #MeansofMercy #HistoricalRomance

As a wife—a woman—of the mid-19th century, very few choices were afforded us. The daughters of means, of money and title, had little hope of marrying for love, let alone someone they felt an affinity for.

I, however, was an orphaned peasant girl of no means. Hardly any family to speak of. Yet, one cousin invited me to London and outfitted me to appear like a lady. She taught me to speak like a lady.

I fooled no one.

However…one well-to-do gentleman, a former rake, was intrigued by my innocence, my being untouched by society.

He swept me off my feet, and starved for affection, I aimed to please him in every way.

A farm-grown girl, I was expected to bear him a strong son. An heir to carry on his family’s dwindling name. When I failed to do so, his outward expression of claimed feelings for me changed.

When our longed-for three-day-old son died in my arms, unrelenting waves of sorrow ruined our love.

Hurtful words—blame—filled my ears. Abusive name-calling in drunken rages became a nightly ritual…when he bothered to come home at all.

So, why did I stay?

I could not afford a divorce, and unless I could prove an abusive spouse, one would never be granted. Society sided with their own when the truth of my husband’s nature came to light. The country-girl was shunned. Trapped, there was nothing I could do.

Until…

Until I realized the true extent of my situation—the predicament his final abusive act brought about—and my resulting desire for revenge inspired a reckless choice.

One that would take me far from corsets, evening gowns, and satin slippers. One that would grant me satisfaction.

Or so I thought.

And now for the final installment. Excerpt #10:

Buttoned, tied, and tucked into the fashionable clothing, I moved to stand before the mirror.
I raised a hand to stifle my giggle. “Oh, my.”
The blue of the fabric and the excitement bubbling inside me made my eyes sparkle in a way I had never seen. I touched the pile of shining hair Helen had pinned in a most becoming way at the base of my neck. And, the constricting corset…well, I never knew I had a womanly figure.
As I studied my reflection, I thought perhaps I wasn’t as homely as Aunt Martha always insisted. For the first time in my life, I felt…well, satisfied. I smoothed the taut fabric around my waist and decided wearing such dresses would be much more enjoyable than stiff undergarments and a striped apron. Corset included.
Except for the skin beneath the rosy hue of my cheeks, a real lady peered back at me. My face was tanned and wind-burned from working outdoors without a proper covering on my head, and compared to Joanna with her porcelain complexion, and the fashionable ladies I studied at the train station, I looked like a rogue child who played all day long in the sunshine.
There was a quiet knock at the door. “Anne, are you almost ready?”
Skin dismissed, I bid Joanna to enter and spun for her approval, the large bell-shaped skirt swaying with grace on its cage.
“My goodness.” Smiling, my cousin clasped her hands before her. “Samuel is going to have a hard time keeping the gentlemen at bay.”
My cheeks burned, but relief swarmed. I wouldn’t be an embarrassment on the streets of London, after all.
“Are you able to manage the crinoline or should we leave that off for now?”
“It isn’t nearly as horrid as I expected,” I said, glancing at the lacy ruffles.
“Try sitting over there.” Joanna pointed to a straight-backed chair by the washstand.
I glided across the room, enjoying the gentle sway of the silly contraption. Wanting to appear sophisticated, I turned with as much grace as I could muster and bent my knees to sit. My dress, cage included, flew upward to block my sight and show off the fancy undergarments.
Helen burst into laughter, and mortified, I leapt back to my feet to find Joanna pressing her fingers to her lips, eyes dancing.
“Did…did you suggest I sit with the purpose of embarrassing me?” I hated the tears lacing my voice.
“Oh, goodness, no, Anne!” Joanna rushed forward and grasped my hands in her own. “I have seen such a travesty befall more than one lady in public and would be horrified if you should experience such a thing. Perhaps a lesson or two?”
Reminding myself my cousin wasn’t a mean-spirited woman like Aunt Martha, I nodded. “I believe that is a good idea.”
Joanna gave me brief instructions on sitting in a crinoline, showing me the best means of managing the wire and cloth cage. I practiced a dozen times before I felt confident I could manage in public without disgracing either of us.
Light shawls around both of our shoulders, we made our way down the stairs. Wells opened the door and stepped back, dipping his head. “Ladies.”
Happiness lit within me and expanded as Emanuel, the gentle, old carriage driver, smiled with approval at my new frock and borrowed shawl.
“I almost didn’t recognise you, Miss Tearle,” he said, while helping me into the carriage behind Joanna. “You look like a real lady.”
Beams of joy doubtless radiated on my face. “Thank you, Emanuel.”
